Wednesday, November 26. 2008Tropical Depressionposter shot The night of the 21st a tropical depression struck all along the Atlantic cost of Panama. It caused flooding in Colon and dumped a huge amount of rain on the mountains above us. The water came rushing down the rivers here and in Boquete on the other side of the Volcano Baru. It wiped out low laying homes and farms taking out all the foot suspension bridges with it. Walls of water cascade down the mountain altering the path of the river for ever or at least maybe for the next 40 some years which was when this last happened here we're told. In this photo our neighbors house is just out of the shot high on the right side. He lost a little property at the water line. He also gained a gravel bed a the bottom of the sand cliff where the river once flowed right at the base. Where there had once been a foot suspension bridge and a small island. What's left of another foot bridge further down the river a Finca Conteras where it crossed to the coffee farm there In the corner where the river disappears in the distant is where that bridge was where we took some wedding pictures. The road was on top of the what is now a mear strip of land that remains to the right in this photo. People are still making there there way to the bridge by foot to get to and from work at the coffee farm. The river path to the right of the sand bar wasn't there before. All of the land has ben cut out to the right of the sand bar all the way up to the level of previous existing road. Some the damage to building at Finca Canteras. Dana and I were in Panama City when this all happened meeting Ian and Adrienne plane. Here we are in Casa Viejo On the road to San Fransico we spotted this big farm Don't make me pick up my head Up a mountain just out of Panama City near Coronado. The turnoff has a sign reading Chica Miraflores locks I guess the crew doesn't smoke Looking back from Casa Viejo towards the canal bridge The French Panama canal administration office in Casa Viejo more of the same close up of the shore there with the tide out Friday, November 7. 2008Accident AnniversaryVigilance... that's what I learned or think I've learned. Monday, October 20. 2008Eclectic October tripSid doesn't have a care or concern in the world Mean while the Fernando ticker was was about to get everyone's attention. Oct 14th I drive him to the hospital at 2:30 in the morning. Four days later he's undergoing cinco bypass surgery. He's up and around and on the road to recovery! Monday Oct 13th we're loading the container. Fernando me and Fernado (Fricho) his nephew We are doing this all on the street in front of his Coral Springs home, a gated community. The next morning there was a warning posted on the container that we'd be fined if we didn't move remove the container. The neighbor from hell was on our case, even though we'd already established permission from management A brief visit to the beach. I think it was Pampano beach Inside Fernando's house taking a break. Finishing up on Monday night. All that's left is loading the pickup and a few odds and ends. The Solar thermal panel along the right side of the container. Hope it makes it here in one piece and my new racing bike and my telescope..ugh I'm worried It's all a blur to me now Gramma Concha watches as tow truck backs up to the container with the pickup on board getting it in inch by inch.. will it fit? A former Florida governor, toothless and a bit rank whose driving the tow truck guides me in. He reminded me of the governor in one of Hiaasen's books Safely tucked in. Now it needed tied down but Dana and I had to run and catch our planes back to Panama. This left it to the nephew to finish up, with Fernando in the hospital etc etc. lots of loose ends. only he knows what happened after we left Monday, October 13. 2008Twins 9/21/08![]() Warm ups...people arriving ![]() Phil, Wade, Craig warming up with a few drinks before the game. ![]() Game Time ![]() Sara and Anna ![]() Look at all the people.... 48,000! All those attending had something comforting to say and admired her independence Ruth J Wynn, 92, died August 28, 2008 after a brief illness. She was born Oct 4, 1915, adopted by James and Elizabeth (McGanghey ) Thornberry and raised in Pennsylvania. Ruth graduated from Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing in 1937. On Sept 4, 1940, she married Charles Yolton Wynn of Pittsburgh. She and Charles raised their two sons in Buffalo, NY and later in White Plains, where she lived beginning in 1959. Charles died in 1976 and thereafter Ruth moved to Pittsburgh in 1993 and lived there until her death. In her AGH School of Nursing yearbook Ruth was described as shy, sensitive and versatile. She was all that and remained deeply concerned with the well being of her fellow man, animals and the world around her. Always a nurse at heart, she home-cared for her in-laws’ grandparent and her mother until they passed away. For several years in the mid 60’s she volunteered as a “Gray Lady” at the VA Hospital in Montrose, NY. She made numerous donations to animal shelters during the course of her life and she tended to the needs of the few stray cats that sought shelter during the winter months on her door step. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Charles; son, Warren; sister in law Jane Hultberg. Ruth is survived by her son, Craig (and his wife Dana) of Volcan, Republic of Panama; 3 grandchildren, Anna Wynn (Wade Kittelson) of Minneapolis; Julia Wynn of New York City; Andrew Wynn of North Dakota; and brother-in-law, John Hultberg of Utica and his three daughters and extended family members. Ruth requested that there be no memorial or burial service. Her ashes will be placed at grave site of the Thornberry family plot, Union Dale Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA. Craig Wynn can be reached by e-mail at craig@tierrasaltas.net or by mail at 1557 Northwest 82nd Ave, Suite PMA 60, Miami, FL 33126. It's on my friends cell phone. Two more races in the season left to go. One on Aug 31 in David and another in September in Panama City.

GO Here they come back from Bugaba about 3 miles out from David where I waited for them along the road side Oliver Martines won the raffle a mtn bike. He'll sell it he says... it's really not up to racing standards" and use the money to beef up his own bike Monday, June 16. 2008de rumbaMud slide soil I discovered while out on my bicycle yesterday on the Rio Serreno Rd. From the heavy rains we got from the tropical depression that centered in Costa Rica the end of May. It's got more clay's in it than I might like.. smells a little like rotting sewage but should work ok as base then topped off with the other soil. Got with the pickup and Jose helping me. |
